You may have heard the false horror stories that lifting weights make women “bulky” – or that men don’t want their woman to lift. It’s all BS that feeds into the false stereotypes. Instead, it’s time to experience the many benefits of weight training.

Lifting weights will help you live a healthier and confident lifestyle. Be obsessed with being a woman who is comfortable in her own skin.

Girls Who Lift is here to educate the world about the power and benefits of lifting. Together, we’re going to change the world. Here are 5 reasons to make sure lifting is in your fitness routines…

1) BURN CALORIES/ FAT LOSS

Not only does weight lifting help you gain muscle, it also helps you lose fat. In a Penn State study, researches put dieters into three groups- no exercise, aerobic exercise only, and weight training. They all lost around 20 pounds, but the weightlifters shed off 6 more pounds than the group that did not pump iron. This is because the lifters loss was pure fat.

Lifting increases the number of calories you will burn. Researchers have concluded that girls who lift burn a greater percentage of calories than girls who don’t lift. Your body at one point may lose a percent of your body’s total muscle. If you don’t lift, this could be replaced by fat overtime… so definitely hit the gym with weights in mind!

2) HEALTH

According to the American Heart Association, lifting can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease. Studies have also found that women lifters have increased bone health. Also, resistance training is a wonderful way to combat loss of bone mass. Body strength is linked to lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.

In addition to physical health, lifting is the best way to increase mental health. Weight training improves everything including cognitive function and memory. The best stress reliever in the world is lifting.

Many studies have concluded that the blood pressure of people with muscle returned to normal levels faster than people without muscle. Women who perform weight training at least 3 times per week have significantly higher moods, overall happiness, and likeability.

3) CURVES

Weight lifting is pretty much the only way to build lean, sexy curves! Forget the stereotypes that lifting will make you manly and “bulky”.. in fact that is all out of jealousy for girls who lift. This is because lifting actually makes you SEXY.

Women are naturally meant to be curvy, and establishing weight training, and especially squats into your routine will POP that booty. Do HIIT – high intensity interval training instead of cardio.

4) YOU’LL IMPROVE FLEXIBILITY/ CARDIO

Static exercise against strength training exercises found that full range resistance strength training workouts can improve flexibility, just as well or better than a static regimen. Building strength never fails—it’s always important!

Stronger muscles means better performance—this performance boost includes running and cardio. With lifting, your core will be better able to support your body’s weight and maintain ideal form. Strength training can also help burn more calories for your cardio workouts.

5) EMPOWERMENT
